It’s officially my favourite time of the year – FASHION MONTH! There’s nothing that makes me feel more content than seeing next season’s new trends and the incredible masterpieces our favourite designer’s put-on display for the world to see and be inspired by. Coming from a design background, it’s so easy for me to appreciate the entire creative process (which is definitely something I miss being a part of) and it’s kind of fulfilling seeing it come full circle this time of year knowing the true chaos of behind the scenes.

SS20 so far has been a pretty tame one, with style sticking to what it does best and keeping the devil in the details – and while we haven’t quite seen all of what New York has to offer yet, I’ve pulled together the best of the season so far…

M Missoni are forever a favourite in my heart, with their fine knits winning the world of fashionista’s over season after season – and SS19 has had a subtle upgrade with metallic finishing’s and accessories. Tonal pieces go out with a bang with contrast pockets and prints, making for the perfect wearable capsule wardrobe. I’m not sure what we’ll fit in these miniature cross-body bags, but I know for sure that I HAVE TO HAVE ONE.

It wouldn’t be an appreciation of this season’s NYFW offering without Tom Ford now, would it? Tom Ford being Tom Ford takes us back to the 70s with Hollywood glamour inspired silhouettes, fur jackets worthy of a movie moment in a Tarentino film and of course, leather OTK boots and Oliver Peoples sunglasses. ‘Knee highs and fur in a SS20 collection’ you say? Well, yep… Tom Ford is all about the ‘see now, buy now’ concept, shaking up the formalities of fashion week as we know it – along with Burberry and Tommy Hilfiger. At least us impatient ones can snap it all up now, huh?

An Australian brand I discovered from guilty pleasure show ‘Fashion Bloggers’, Zimmermann hit the nail on the head every single time, with their new romantic approach to design and soft, feminine styles. Victorian ruffles dominated the collection, paired with effortless ‘throw-on’ outerwear, keeping the collection cooler than ever. Major props for the button-down wide leg trousers, too. This one’s for the socialite in all of us.

Socks and sandals are back. Yeah, I said it, and I didn’t think I’d be saying that ever again… Or just ever actually. As far as Herve Leger is concerned though, who am I to question it? Our long reigning love for furry footwear continues, with soles and straps adorned in fluff and paired with baby pink socks making quite the statement. You know me, I’m all for a shoe statement. Inspired by modern dance, this collection was always going to win my heart – with delicate use of fabrics, romantic cuts, raw finishes and an all-round celebration of the female form.

Last but not least at all is American icon Tommy Hilfiger, who brought us the most perfect collaboration of all with Gigi Hadid – the all American girl-next-door-supermodel who’s been dominating our Instagram feeds for quite some time now with her perfect cheekbones and off-duty style. It’s a collaboration that makes complete marketing sense for Hilfiger – with his ‘see now, buy now’ approach letting you literally buy the clothes off Gigi’s back. Creating the brands usual wearable, American heritage pieces, this season took a nautical spin as a kind of follow up to Tommy’s previous collection. The collection debuted in Hilfiger’s very own fairground, setting a fun atmosphere for the free-spirited theme – covering all bases from safe day-to-day pieces such as sports jerseys and military jackets, to more versatile styles such as leather trousers, skirts and denim styles.
